What's a B Corp?
Certified B Corporations are businesses that meet the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose. B Corps are accelerating a global culture shift to redefine success in business and build a more inclusive and sustainable economy. B Corps use business as a force for good. You could say that the B Corp certification is to companies what Fair Trade is to coffee and what organic is to your veggies: a quality mark to let you know for sure that it’s good.

Quest is now part of a community of over 3,000 businesses globally who have certified as B Corps. These include well-known brands like Innocent, Patagonia, Alpro, Ben & Jerry's, The Body Shop and The Guardian. In Belgium, we are the 13th organisation to certify, after a.o. Streetwize, The Skateroom and Danone Belgium.
How do you become a B Corp?
In order to obtain B Corp certification, your company has to go through an impact assessment covering five key impact areas:
The certification process is very rigorous. You have to score over 80 and provide ample evidence of socially and environmentally responsible practices - including energy supplies, waste and water use, employee compensation, diversity and corporate transparency. To complete the certification, the company will legally embed their commitment to purpose beyond profit in their company articles. Unfortunately, this is still not possible in Belgium.
Being able to welcome Quest to the B Corp Community is hugely exciting. Their commitment to doing business differently will be an inspiration to others and really help spread the idea that we can redefine success in business to be as much about people and planet as it is about profit.

Why have we become a B Corp?
First of all: the vision and purpose of B Lab and Quest are fully aligned. We both believe that business should be a force for good and we both envision a systems change. That’s why from the moment we started Quest, becoming a B Corp was one of our main goals.

Second, at Quest we have three target groups:

We wanted to prove our customers that we are one of them and that we practice what we preach as well.
And last but not least, we also wanted to understand what we can do better. The Impact Assessment tool is a very useful way to learn a lot about the (positive or negative) impact of your organisation. Just by using this tool and following the certification process, we’ve already learned so much about our own organisation. And to top it off, you get an improvement report, full of tips to improve your score. And trust me, we’re already working on improving our score.
