"You are stealing our future"
The truth isn’t always pretty, that’s for sure. And sometimes we need a 15-year-old to tell it like it really is. That’s why we’re so glad Greta didn’t hold back at all when she spoke at the UN plenary session in Poland. Here’s a number of interesting quotes from her speech:
- You only speak of green, eternal, economic growth, because you’re too scared of being unpopular. And you only talk about moving forward with the same bad ideas that got us into this mess, even when the only sensible thing to do is pull the emergency break.
- You are not mature enough to tell it like it is. Even that burden you leave to us children. You say you love your children above all else and yet you are stealing their future in front of their very eyes.
- Our civilisation is being sacrificed for the opportunity of a very small number of people to continue making enormous amounts of money. It is the sufferings of the many which pay for the luxury of the few.
- Until you start focusing on what needs to be done, rather than on what’s politically correct, there is no hope.
Talk about getting down to brass tacks. To top it off she finished her speech with the following words:
We have not come here to beg world leaders to care. You have ignored us in the past and you will ignore us again. We have come here to let you know that change is coming, whether you like it or not.
Strong words from a strong personality. Change is definitely coming, Greta, and we at Quest hope to make a significant contribution to that change.
I feel a lot of people/media are a bit too eager to focus on Greta's suggestions being naive. I'd like to remind those people to a famous quote from Albert Einstein:
We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.
Let's stop shooting at the messenger, so we can start focussing on the message. Oh and Greta: if you’re ever looking for a job, call us first okay?
